Everything You Need to Know
as an RIS Parent

Life at Rome International School (RIS) is built on strong partnerships between school and home. From the school day to key dates, uniforms, lunches, transport, wellbeing, and communication, here you’ll find all the essential information you need throughout the year. Whether you're joining our community for the first time or looking for a quick answer, we hope this helps your family stay connected and prepared.

RIS Friends:
Parent Partnership in Action

Our parent community, RIS Friends, plays an important role in bringing together parents, teachers, and school staff to enrich school life, strengthen connections, and create opportunities for every student to feel at home and flourish during their time at RIS.

Whether welcoming new families, organising community events, supporting school initiatives, or celebrating the many cultures that make up our international community, RIS Friends helps make RIS a place where everyone belongs. Every parent is encouraged to get involved in whatever way feels right, by volunteering, sharing ideas, or contributing their time and talents.

RIS Friends is supported by four dedicated committees, each helping to shape different aspects of school life. From our events team to our parent representatives, educational support volunteers, and skills sharing network, these committees help ensure that the partnership between home and school continues to grow, creating an even richer experience for every RIS student and family.

Enrichment & After-School Programmes

Our after-school and enrichment programme enhances and supports students’ educational journey. From RIS favourites like LEGO®, Cooking, and Judo, to enrichment opportunities like Model United Nations, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Performing Arts (LAMDA Certification), plus diverse Sports, there’s something for every interest including active parents who can sign-up for a morning Pilates class twice per week.

2. Menu Creation | Creazione dei Menù

Who designs the menus and how is the process managed?

Our catering partner Elior works with qualified and experienced dieticians to design menus that are nutritionally balanced for each year group and are compliant with legislation for school lunches.

The menus are currently being revised by Elior and the Dietitian to better reflect the feedback provided by our RIS Food Committee and community; more meat alternatives, vegetables, variety. Menus will be reviewed on a regular basis. The new summer 2026 menu will be in effect from 8 June 2026.

Term 1 2026-27 will be issued at the start of the academic year.

I menù saranno revisionati regolarmente.

3. Last-Minute Modifications | Modifiche dell'Ultimo Minuto

Why do menu changes sometimes happen at the last moment? Perché a volte avvengono modifiche al menù dell'ultimo momento?

Changes occur only when a supplier fails to deliver a specific product. In these cases, we perform a direct substitution. This ensures that the nutritional balance and the planned weekly food frequency remain intact. Supply chain issues are carefully monitored to minimise disruption to published menus.

4. Hygiene & Safety Controls | Controlli Igienico-Sanitari

What safety procedures and certifications are in place?

Elior follows strict HACCP protocols and EU Regulation 852/2004. This includes systematic cleaning of equipment, mandatory staff training, and constant monitoring of critical control points (time and temperature) throughout production.

5. Cold Chain & Transport | Catena del Freddo e Trasporto

How is the temperature of the food maintained during transport?

We use specialised isothermal "polyboxes" that guarantee minimal thermal decay. Hot food is kept above 60-65°C, while cold items (like yogurt) are kept below 10°C. Temperatures are sampled and recorded at both departure and arrival.
